Muck Removal Grand Canal, Merritt Island

Grand Canal Muck Dredging

Status: Complete (late 2025). The completed project removed more than 534,000 cubic yards of nutrient-rich legacy sediment from the Grand Canal.

Stormwater Crane Creek, Melbourne / Palm Bay

Crane Creek M1 Canal Flow Restoration

Status: Complete. Designed to redirect the M-1 Canal flow away from the lagoon and modeled to reduce nutrient loading by ~24,000 pounds of nitrogen and ~3,100 pounds of phosphorus per year. These are modeled annual load reductions from the county project record, not direct in-water measurements; the project record and performance table are available on the county dashboard.

Wastewater Rockledge WWTP

Rockledge Wastewater Plant Upgrade

Status: Complete. The 100th SOIRL-funded project. A new treatment system at the Rockledge plant is designed to reduce 50–85% of ammonia and nitrogen in the reuse water headed toward the lagoon. A separate SOIRL milestone that month was the community release of 100,000 clams in Titusville.

Stormwater West Melbourne

Ray Bullard Stormwater Management Area

Status: Complete. Combines traditional stormwater pond treatment with biofilter technology to treat runoff from 450 acres of residential neighborhoods. Modeled to reduce nutrient loading by 1,317 pounds of nitrogen and 400 pounds of phosphorus per year under design conditions.

Muck Removal Mims / North Brevard

Mims Muck Dredging & Boat Ramp

Status: Complete. Dredging removed approximately 50 tons of nitrogen and 7 tons of phosphorus from the lagoon bottom (reported one-time removal). Restored a boat ramp destroyed by muck accumulation.

Wastewater South Central Brevard

South Central C Septic-to-Sewer

Status: Complete. Connected 22 properties to central sewer, reducing modeled septic nitrogen loading in that neighborhood. Part of a broader county-wide septic-to-sewer program; see the Homeowner Grants page for the current program totals.

Stormwater Micco / South Brevard

Micco Stormwater Park

Status: Complete. A regional stormwater treatment park treating runoff from a substantial drainage area in south Brevard before it reaches the lagoon. Reported by the county to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus loading each year while doubling as public open space. Specific reported annual load reductions are available on the county dashboard.

Muck Removal Eau Gallie River

Eau Gallie River Muck Removal

Status: Under construction. Dredging targeting a substantial accumulation of nutrient-laden sediment just northeast of the causeway. Some legacy muck in this tributary reaches 12 feet deep. Removes a portion of nutrient-rich legacy sediment; per-project reduction totals depend on model assumptions and the disposal pathway.

Habitat McNabb Park, Merritt Island

McNabb Park Oyster Restoration

Status: Ongoing (broader oyster program). Living infrastructure — restored oyster reefs that filter water naturally. University of Central Florida monitoring confirmed oysters surviving and growing six months in. See the current county project plan for the current count of completed reef projects (this card is dated to the 2025–2026 program status).

Homeowner Program Countywide

Homeowner Septic-to-Sewer Quick Connect

Status: Ongoing program. Reimburses eligible homeowners for connecting to central sewer or upgrading to an advanced nitrogen-reducing septic system. Current program limits: qualifying quick connects may receive up to $24,000 for a force-main / pumped connection or $12,000 for a gravity connection; advanced septic systems must meet the applicable nitrogen-reduction standard. Advanced septic upgrades, septic-to-sewer connections and private lateral repairs have separate eligibility and reimbursement rules. A NO vote would end the renewed local revenue stream after the current authorization expires. Existing contracts and legally available balances would be handled under applicable county rules; projects without other funding could be delayed, reduced, or cancelled.
