IRLFacts
Who is behind this site

Built by David Sherrer.

Cocoa Beach resident. Former member of the Save Our Indian River Lagoon Citizen Oversight Committee — unpaid citizen volunteers who sit through the monthly meetings, read the audits, and review the annual plan and project performance. I built this site because too many people I know cannot tell you what the tax actually does or where the money goes. This site is my attempt to fix that in plain English, with major factual claims linked to primary or authoritative source material.

Editorial position

This site takes an editorial position in favor of renewing the SOIRL half-cent sales tax on the November 3, 2026 ballot. I think it is the right call for Brevard, for the lagoon, and for the households whose home values, paychecks, and quality of life depend on it. If you disagree, read the Straight Up page — I handle the honest critiques there.

What this site is

LagoonFacts.org is independently funded and edited by David Sherrer. David supports approval of the 2026 Save Our Indian River Lagoon renewal. LagoonFacts is not a Brevard County, IRLNEP, IRL Coalition, or government website. Public records and scientific sources are linked so readers can inspect the evidence directly. I lived on the lagoon for close to a decade as a lagoon-front homeowner in Cocoa Beach — I converted the property to be lagoon-friendly, managing stormwater on site so nothing was running off into the lagoon — before hurricane flooding damage eventually forced me to sell. I served on the SOIRL Citizen Oversight Committee, and I think the 2026 renewal is important enough that voters deserve one place where they can read the case for it in plain English, with sources.

Major factual claims and dollar figures are linked to primary or authoritative source material. Where a claim relies on a modeled estimate, the page identifies it as an estimate and links to the underlying methodology or official report. If I get something wrong, tell me and I will fix it in public.

What this site is not

  • Not government. This is not a Brevard County site. Nothing here is official.
  • Not sponsored. No paid content, no advertising, no undisclosed relationships.
  • Not affiliated with any campaign organization, including the Brevard IRL Coalition — though I agree with them on the ballot outcome.

Why my name is on this

Because the opposition frame is going to be "who is really behind this?" Anonymous facts sites are how people get manipulated online, and voters have every right to know who is telling them how to vote. I am. My real name, my real background, my real committee service. If you want to argue with a claim on this site, argue with me — david@irlfacts.org.

Corrections & questions

Corrections are published on the affected page and in a public corrections log. The log identifies the date, page, original wording, corrected wording, reason for the change, and supporting source. Send corrections, questions, or additional data to david@irlfacts.org or hello@irlfacts.org.

Evidence Ledger

Every major visible numeric, legal, and scientific claim on this site is tracked in a public Evidence Ledger. Each entry lists exactly what is said in public, whether the claim is measured, modeled, projected, or interpretive, the primary source it traces to, its source tier, and the date the site owner last verified that source. The ledger also lists categories of numeric or legal claim that are intentionally held from public view pending independent verification.
